ABOUT HUMBLE MONKEY

Humble Monkey is a Minneapolis-based production company owned and operated by the far-from-braggy primate, Andrew Kamin. Between his master’s degree in photography and 17 years spent working in the commercial photography industry, Andrew knows it takes a lot more than a type-A personality and a fat Rolodex to make a good producer. Humble Monkey offers editorial, commercial and corporate photographers reliable, cost-effective production services that cover every aspect of the job from estimate to invoice and all the monkey business in between.

MORE ON ANDREW

Some people, even from a very young age, know exactly what they want to be and they pursue that dream with relentless passion until they achieve success. Andrew was not necessarily that guy.

Andrew has his father to thank for his love of photography. Though he seems all nice and nerdy now, Andrew was a bit of a handful as a lad. One day, upon noticing that the neighbors were out of town, he stole their car. He knew enough to park it down the block so he could use it during the day without being noticed by his parents. But the savvy lad, who was only a freshman at the time, didn’t count on one of the family’s grown children stopping by and discovering the car was missing. Dad was called and Andrew was told to find a “full time extracurricular activity” to keep him busy and out of trouble for the remainder of his days in high school.

Andrew sought a position on the yearbook staff as a photographer. He loved the job, particularly the fact that his press pass got him out of class and into all kinds of cool places. Soon he quickly moved up to photo editor and then editor. This “punishment” would end up setting the course of his professional life.

After high school Andrew attended the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, earning a master’s degree in illustration/advertising.

Though it makes him sound kind of old, Andrew has over 17 years experience in the commercial photography industry. After college, he spent eight years doing production and studio management at Minneapolis’ Fox Studio as well as The Photography Group. He also worked on staff as an art buyer at Target Corporation where he was responsible for a multi-million dollar community relations campaign promoting the company’s corporate giving. Most recently, Andrew spent a year developing an integrated branding strategy and marketing campaign for Minneapolis photographer, Jonathan Chapman.

Andrew currently supports photographers with production services, marketing and business consultation and offers art buying services to design firms, agencies and corporations.
