I’ve been turned onto the work of Bronek Kozka recently. The Australian based shooter intrigues with a combination of subject matter and masterfully sculpted lighting. The success of these images, in my humble assessment, is that they drop you instantly- with ease – into these environments. Check out the Room 101 portfolio and you’ll know what I mean. Nice work indeed.

I happened upon the work of Buenos Aires native, Alejandro Chaskielberg on the super sweet New York Times blog called Lens. Somehow I missed that he was also a recipient of the PDN’s 30 under 30. The mood established with the use of saturated color and selective focus is very appealing. I look forward to following the career of this cat.

Enjoy the sweet work of Noah Kalina. I love how a strobe head is incorporated into some of the shots. This is really solid, unified body of work. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more work from this cat for sure.

At the age of eighteen, Rachel Papo was serving in the Israel Air Force as a photographer. This tour of duty was the inspiration for her current project titled after her own serial number during service: Serial No. 3817131.

Born in Ohio, but raised in Israel, the photo bug caught Rachel while she was in her teens. She attended the renowned fine-arts high school in Haifa, Israel, earned a BFA in Fine Arts from Ohio State University and an MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. The photographs of Israeli female soldiers started in 2004 as part of her masters thesis project. A book of this beautiful work has been published by powerHouse Books.

In my opinion, much of today’s photography suffers from too much post-exposure tinkering to balance this or clean up that. For this reason, I find the work of Darren Ankenman refreshing as his images appear void of much of those “improvements”. He also doesn’t subscribe strictly to the less is more rule while tossing up a robust amount of content up to the web. Take a second and check it out.

I have enjoyed following the work of Erica Shires since I was introduced to her via a Communications Arts write up back in May 2007. The continuity of style throughout her work is just something to behold. Love the framing sensibilities she’s got too.
